THRIVE
Three days of market insight, investment discussion, founder-led exchange and hospitality experiences across Dubai.

Originally from Geelong, Australia, Tom Arnel is a chef, restaurateur and entrepreneur who has helped shape Dubai’s modern hospitality scene. His career began with a school holiday job as a kitchen hand, which quickly developed into a passion for food and hospitality. He went on to train in leading Australian kitchens, including Melbourne’s acclaimed Vue de Monde under chef Shannon Bennett, where he spent three and a half years developing his culinary skills and approach to hospitality. In 2010, Tom moved to the UAE and three years later, he co-founded Tom & Serg in Al Quoz, creating an approachable, ingredient-led café centred around quality food, specialty coffee and community. The concept became one of Dubai’s most influential independent cafés and helped establish Al Quoz as a destination for the city’s emerging creative and food scene. Following the success of Tom & Serg, Tom went on to establish EatX, a homegrown hospitality group now spanning more than 20 venues across Dubai. Its portfolio includes The Sum of Us, Common Grounds, Harvest & Co., Byron Bathers Club, Hawkerboi and The Guild, alongside a number of other concepts. In 2023, Tom opened The Guild at ICD Brookfield Place in DIFC, marking a new chapter for EatX. Inspired by the great brasseries of New York and Europe, the restaurant brought a more elevated dining experience to the group while maintaining Tom’s focus on quality ingredients, considered design and warm hospitality.

Since opening, The Guild has become one of Dubai’s most acclaimed restaurants, earning a Michelin Plate and being named Opening of the Year 2024 at the Caterer Middle East Awards. Tom’s contribution to the hospitality industry has also been recognised internationally. In 2019, he was named The Australian Business Person of the Year by the Australian Business Group Abu Dhabi and the Australian Business Council Dubai. In 2024 he was awarded Restaurateur of the Year at the Caterer Middle East Awards, recognising his impact on the UAE’s dining landscape and his role in building one of the region’s most successful homegrown hospitality groups. Today, Tom continues to lead EatX, which has grown into one of Dubai’s most respected hospitality companies, with a portfolio of award-winning concepts including Tom & Serg, Common Grounds, The Sum of Us, Hawkerboi, Byron Bathers Club, Harvest & Co., Splendour Fields, Encounter Coffee Roasters and The Guild. Looking ahead, the group is set for significant expansion, with plans to open 10 new venues between 2026 and 2027, including its first ventures into Abu Dhabi, further strengthening EatX’s presence across the UAE. His work is the result of a long-term commitment to building homegrown hospitality brands that feel distinctive, accessible and rooted in the city, while continuing to evolve alongside the region’s dining culture.
