After more than four decades of building restaurants, developing leaders and taking brands across borders, Bradley Michael is defining his next chapter by a larger mission: to share the knowledge, relationships, opportunity and capital that helped shape his own journey with the next generation of hospitality leaders.

Founder and Chairman of Blue Coral Concepts and founder of Seagrass Boutique Hospitality Group, Michael is known for seeing value where others see risk, building differentiated restaurant concepts and creating the teams and operating structures required to scale them. His career has crossed South Africa, Australia, the Middle East, the United Kingdom and Asia - but his philosophy has remained personal: hospitality begins with people.

A career built by beginning again, Michael's early discipline was forged through elite sport and, after being conscripted into the South African Defence Force in 1982, as a Physical Training Instructor.

His commercial beginning was far more modest. On 8 June 1992, with R5,000 borrowed from his uncle Raymond Solomon, he took over the canteen at Paardekraal Hospital in Krugersdorp. He worked seven days a week and sold the business roughly eighteen months. It was his first proof that hard work, instinct and personal service could turn a small opportunity into meaningful capital.

In the years that followed, he acquired and rebuilt Black Steer, growing it from two restaurants to 156 across multiple international markets in roughly three and a half years. He helped build the Foodgro platform, took the business to the Johannesburg Stock Exchange and secured the Planet Hollywood rights for South Africa. The scale was impressive, but the deeper pattern was more important: identify an underappreciated opportunity, create a clear proposition, place strong people around it and move with conviction.

Leadership tested when the stakes were human, On 25 August 1998, a bomb exploded at Planet Hollywood in Cape Town. The event changed the meaning of leadership for Michael. It was no longer about growth or brand recognition; it was about standing with employees, guests and victims when the human consequences were greater than the commercial loss. He helped establish a relief effort that raised about R1.8 million for those affected. Nelson Mandela later supported the fight for the insurance claim and attended the reopening. For Michael, the lesson was permanent: a leader is most visible when the plan has failed and people need somebody to remain present.

From South Africa to the world, The Meat Co at Montecasino became the foundation of Michael's next international chapter, followed by Dubai and other Middle Eastern markets. In January 2003, he relocated to Sydney with his wife, Melanie, and their daughters, Cassidy, Justine and Savannah. That same year, he opened The Meat & Wine Co at a Darling Harbour site the local market had largely written off. The restaurant succeeded and became the base from which a new Australian hospitality group was built.

Through Seagrass Boutique Hospitality Group, Michael and his teams developed and scaled a portfolio that included The Meat & Wine Co, 6HEAD, Hunter & Barrel, Ribs & Burgers, Italian Street Kitchen and Five Guys Australia. What began with a tiny support team grew into a multinational hospitality platform employing thousands of people across its journey. In 2025, Michael led the sale of Seagrass's premium restaurant portfolio to Japan's Colowide Corporation. It completed one significant chapter - and created the freedom to begin again.

Hospitality is human-first, "I believe the heart of every home is the kitchen table," Michael says. "It is where families are united and love is experienced. That is the heart of hospitality, and it remains the heart of my vision." That belief shapes his approach to culture. Michael is known for an impassioned, hands-on leadership style and for making direct connections with employees, guests and partners. He believes the most effective leaders understand human behaviour, put the right people in the right positions, provide clarity and then empower them to own the result. The commercial balance sheet matters, but people are the asset that compounds.

His philosophy is grounded in Ubuntu - I am because we are. In practice, that means leadership that serves, standards that protect both the guest and the team, and businesses where people can build careers rather than simply fill shifts.

A flowing river, not a reservoir" I want to be a flowing river, not a reservoir. I want what I have been given - love, passion, knowledge, wisdom, empathy, opportunity and capital - to keep moving through me, so that other hospitality people can learn, grow and make a difference for their own teams and guests."

For Michael, this is more than a personal motto. It is a commitment to become both an inspiration and an instrument for younger hospitality professionals. Inspiration shows people what is possible; being an instrument means giving them time, honest feedback, access, responsibility and - where it can make the difference - financial backing. He does not want four decades of hard-won knowledge to stop with him.

The next partnership. Through Blue Coral Concepts, Michael is now focused on selective partnerships with founders, chefs, operators, established brand owners, landlords and investors who want to build or scale concepts with a clear identity, strong commercial foundations and a culture people are proud to join. He is particularly drawn to leaders who combine ambition with humility and who understand that growth must never strip a brand of its soul.

He brings more than capital. He brings pattern recognition earned across cycles, markets and formats: concept positioning, site judgement, deal structuring, international adaptation, operating discipline, brand standards, team architecture and the ability to remain calm when conditions change. "I want to be both an inspiration and an instrument for younger hospitality professionals - not only to show what is possible, but to help make it possible
